چکیده

In the future quantum computers may allow us to process information in ways not possible on classical computers. The invention of algorithms to run on a quantum computer is a very difficult task, a fact made evident by the small number of algorithms currently known. This essay is intended as a review of the most important quantum algorithms, and will hopefully allow the reader to gain some understanding of the capabilities and limitations of quantum computers. The standard model of quantum computation, the quantum circuit model, is described and then demonstated in the simple examples of Deutsch’s algorithm and the quantum teleportation of a qubit. Examples of the two main classes of useful quantum algorithm are then presented, namely the Grover search algorithm and Shor’s algorithm for prime factorisation.
